HUNTSVILLE, AL. (THECOUNT) — Troy Russell Tyrrell Jr., 50, of Imbler, Oregon, has been identified as the motorcyclist killed in a two-vehicle crash Thursday night in Huntsville, Alabama.
According to authorities, the crash occurred near the nature preserve area along Cecil Ashburn Drive at approximately 9:10 p.m.
Investigators said the motorcycle was involved in a collision with a passenger vehicle.
The motorcyclist sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the other vehicle was transported to Huntsville Hospital Trauma Services for treatment. Their condition was not immediately released.
Cecil Ashburn Drive is a major arterial roadway in southeast Huntsville that connects residential neighborhoods with commercial areas and provides access to Monte Sano Mountain and surrounding nature preserve lands. The roadway is known for winding terrain and elevated sections that serve daily commuter traffic in the region.
Huntsville, located in Madison County in northern Alabama, is one of the state’s largest cities and a major hub for aerospace, defense, and technology industries. The city sits along the Appalachian foothills and includes a network of heavily traveled urban and suburban roadways.
Authorities have not released additional details regarding the circumstances that led to the collision.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
