POWELL COUNTY, KY. (THECOUNT) — Luke Pierce, 19, was identified as the victim killed Tuesday evening in a weather-related crash along KY 213 in Stanton, Powell County, according to officials.
Powell County Coroner Megan Wells-Curtis confirmed Pierce died as a result of the collision.
Authorities said the crash occurred Tuesday evening along Kentucky Route 213.
According to Wells-Curtis, the vehicle hydroplaned during wet roadway conditions before leaving the roadway and traveling over an embankment.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and remained in the area for several hours while investigators documented evidence and worked to recover the vehicle.
The Stanton Fire Department reported that KY 213 was closed for an extended period following the collision.
Officials said the roadway reopened around 10:30 p.m.
The Powell County Coroner’s Office remained at the crash site as late as 10:18 p.m., according to reports from the scene.
Pierce was a beloved member of the University of Pikeville Bass Fishing Team.
Powell County is located in eastern Kentucky near the Red River Gorge region, an area known for winding rural roadways and changing weather conditions.
Authorities have not yet released additional information regarding the vehicle involved or whether any other occupants were present.
The investigation into the fatal crash remains ongoing.
