OH Man Paul King ID’d As Victim In Thursday Austinburg Twp Fatal Crash

AUSTINBURG TOWNSHIP, OH. (THECOUNT) — Paul King, 77, of Newton Falls, Ohio, was killed Thursday evening in a two-vehicle crash involving a Ford Transit and a Toyota Tacoma at the intersection of State Route 307 and Windsor-Mechanicsville Road in Austinburg Township, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 5:16 p.m. Thursday in Ashtabula County.

According to investigators, King was operating a 2017 Ford Transit northbound on Windsor-Mechanicsville Road when the vehicle failed to stop at the intersection with State Route 307.

Troopers said the Ford Transit then entered the intersection and was struck by a 2018 Toyota Tacoma traveling along Route 307.

The impact caused the Toyota Tacoma to overturn and travel off the north side of the roadway.

Authorities said King’s Ford Transit also traveled off the north side of the roadway following the collision and struck two parked vehicles.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene and pronounced King dead at the location of the crash.

A passenger traveling in King’s vehicle sustained life-threatening injuries and was initially transported to UH Geneva Medical Center before being flown to UH Cleveland Medical Center for additional treatment.

The driver of the Toyota Tacoma suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to UH Geneva Medical Center, according to officials.

The intersection of State Route 307 and Windsor-Mechanicsville Road remained active with emergency crews and investigators Thursday evening as authorities documented evidence and removed damaged vehicles from the roadway.

Traffic disruptions were reported in the area during the investigation and cleanup operations.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said troopers were assisted at the scene by deputies from the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office, Northwest Ambulance District personnel, Geneva Fire Department, and Austinburg Fire Department.

State Route 307 serves as an east-west corridor through portions of Ashtabula County and connects several rural communities in northeastern Ohio.

The area surrounding the crash site consists largely of rural roadway intersections, farmland, and local residential traffic routes.

Authorities have not indicated whether speed, impairment, distraction, or roadway conditions contributed to the collision.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the deadly crash.

No additional information has been released.
