MO Man Edward Strickland ID’d As Rider In Wednesday Lee’s Summit Fatal Motorcycle Crash

LEE’S SUMMIT, MO. (THECOUNT) — Edward M. Strickland, 34, of Kansas City, Missouri, was killed Wednesday evening in a motorcycle crash involving a pickup truck along the Interstate 470 eastbound exit ramp at Pryor Road in Lee’s Summit, according to police.

The fatal collision occurred shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday in Jackson County.

According to a release issued by the Lee’s Summit Police Department, emergency crews responded to reports of a two-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle and a truck near the eastbound I-470 exit ramp at Pryor Road.

Preliminary findings indicate Strickland was operating a motorcycle eastbound on the Interstate 470 exit ramp when the bike collided with the rear of a truck traveling in the same direction.

Authorities have not released additional information regarding what may have led up to the collision.

First responders rendered aid at the scene before Strickland was transported to an area trauma center for emergency treatment.

Despite lifesaving efforts by medical personnel, Strickland later died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Officials did not immediately specify which hospital received the victim.

The driver of the truck involved in the collision was evaluated at the crash scene for possible injuries but declined transportation to a hospital, according to investigators.

No additional injuries were reported.

The crash caused disruptions in the area of the Interstate 470 exit ramp while investigators documented evidence and crews worked to clear the roadway.

Traffic delays were reported in portions of Lee’s Summit Tuesday evening as emergency responders remained on scene.

Authorities have not released information regarding whether speed, impairment, distraction, or roadway conditions may have contributed to the deadly collision.

The Lee’s Summit Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Interstate 470 serves as a major connector route through the eastern Kansas City metropolitan area and carries significant commuter traffic through Jackson County communities including Lee’s Summit, Independence, and Blue Springs.

The Pryor Road interchange area includes multiple entrance and exit ramps connecting residential neighborhoods and commercial developments throughout the rapidly growing suburban corridor.

Investigators have not announced whether any citations or charges are anticipated in connection with the crash.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or observed either vehicle prior to the crash is encouraged to contact authorities.
