RI Man Joseph Baez ID’d As Rider In Tuesday CT Fatal Motorcycle Crash

MADISON, CONN. (THECOUNT) — Joseph R. Baez, 28, of Providence, Rhode Island, was killed Tuesday afternoon in a motorcycle crash involving a Subaru Crosstrek along Interstate 95 South in Madison, Connecticut, according to Connecticut State Police.

The fatal collision occurred around 1:43 p.m. Tuesday on Interstate 95 South just south of Exit 60 in New Haven County.

Authorities said Baez was operating a motorcycle southbound on I-95 when he struck the rear of a Subaru Crosstrek traveling in the same direction.

Investigators with the Connecticut State Police said preliminary findings indicate Baez was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the collision.

Troopers also reported the motorcycle Baez was operating did not have a license plate attached at the time of the crash.

The Subaru Crosstrek involved in the collision was being driven by a 74-year-old woman from Guilford, Connecticut.

Authorities stated the woman was not injured in the crash and did not require transportation to a hospital.

Emergency medical personnel responded to the interstate shortly after the collision was reported.

Baez sustained serious injuries in the crash and was transported by EMS to Yale New Haven Hospital for treatment.

Despite lifesaving efforts by medical personnel, authorities said Baez later died from injuries sustained in the collision.

The crash resulted in significant traffic disruptions along Interstate 95 South during the afternoon commute as troopers and emergency crews investigated the scene and removed damaged vehicles from the roadway.

Motorists traveling through the Madison area experienced delays while portions of the highway remained impacted by the investigation.

Authorities have not released additional information regarding whether impairment, weather conditions, or other factors may have contributed to the crash.

Investigators continue working to reconstruct the events leading up to the fatal collision.

Interstate 95 serves as one of the primary north-south travel corridors along the East Coast and carries heavy daily commuter and commercial traffic through coastal Connecticut communities including Madison, Guilford, and New Haven.

The section of I-95 near Exit 60 has historically experienced heavy congestion during peak travel periods due to the volume of passenger and freight traffic moving through southern Connecticut.

Authorities have not indicated whether any charges or citations are expected in connection with the crash.

The Connecticut State Police continues to investigate the deadly collision.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or observed the motorcycle prior to the collision is encouraged to contact investigators.

No additional information has been released at this time.
