KY Teen A’yanna Wilbanks ID’d As Victim In Thursday Louisville Fatal Crash

LOUISVILLE, KY. (THECOUNT) — A’yanna Wilbanks, of Louisville, Kentucky, has been identified as the victim in a fatal single-vehicle collision Thursday near the city’s Smoketown neighborhood, according to authorities. Wilbanks was 19.

The crash occurred at approximately 4:53 p.m. Thursday, May 14, in the 700 block of Logan Street near downtown Louisville in Jefferson County, located in north-central Kentucky along the Ohio River.

According to Louisville Metro Police Department spokesperson Adam Sears, Fourth Division officers responded to reports of an injury collision involving a vehicle that crashed into a building.

When officers arrived at the scene, investigators found a vehicle that had struck a structure along Logan Street.

Police said the vehicle contained three occupants.

Wilbanks sustained fatal injuries in the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office determined her cause of death to be blunt force trauma sustained in the crash.

Two additional occupants inside the vehicle were transported to UofL Hospital for treatment.

Authorities said the surviving occupants suffered injuries that did not initially appear to be life-threatening.

Their identities, ages, and conditions have not been publicly released.

Investigators also have not publicly confirmed which of the three occupants was operating the vehicle at the time of the collision.

The circumstances that caused the vehicle to leave the roadway and strike the building remain under investigation.

Police have not publicly stated whether speed, impairment, distraction, medical issues, or mechanical failure may have contributed to the crash.

The collision caused a large emergency response in the Smoketown area Thursday afternoon as police, firefighters, and EMS personnel secured the crash site and rendered aid to the injured occupants.

Traffic in the area of Logan Street was affected during the investigation and cleanup operations.

The Louisville Metro Police Department Traffic Unit is leading the ongoing investigation into the fatal crash.

Authorities said additional information may be released as investigators continue reviewing evidence and interviewing witnesses connected to the collision.

No charges have been announced.
