ME Man Kyle Lunn ID’d As Rider In Thursday Casco Fatal Motorcycle Crash

CASCO, ME. (THECOUNT) — Kyle Lunn, of Casco, Maine, has been identified as the victim in a fatal motorcycle crash Thursday night in Cumberland County, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. Lunn was 34.

The collision occurred at approximately 8:45 p.m. along Roosevelt Trail in Casco, a community located in southwestern Maine within Cumberland County.

According to investigators, Lunn was operating a 2003 Honda motorcycle traveling along Roosevelt Trail when the motorcycle crossed the centerline and entered the path of an oncoming 2011 Lexus sedan.

Authorities said the Lexus was being driven by Michael Peterson, 26, of Naples, Maine, at the time of the collision.

The motorcycle and Lexus subsequently collided head-on, resulting in fatal injuries to Lunn. He was pronounced dead at the scene by responding emergency personnel.

A juvenile passenger riding on the motorcycle also sustained serious injuries in the crash. Officials said the child was transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland with life-threatening injuries.

Peterson sustained minor injuries and was transported to Bridgton Hospital for treatment, according to the sheriff’s office.

No additional details regarding the juvenile passenger’s condition have been released.

Roosevelt Trail, also known as U.S. Route 302 in portions of Cumberland County, serves as a major regional roadway connecting several western Maine communities. The route carries a combination of local commuter traffic, tourism-related travel, and commercial vehicles, particularly during evening hours and warmer weather months when motorcycle traffic increases throughout the region.

Head-on collisions involving motorcycles frequently result in severe or fatal injuries due to the limited protection available to riders during high-impact crashes.

Investigators with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office continued examining the scene Friday as part of an active crash investigation. Authorities have not publicly indicated whether speed, impairment, roadway conditions, or other contributing factors played a role in the collision.

Emergency responders temporarily impacted traffic along the roadway while crews conducted the on-scene investigation and cleared debris from the crash area.

The investigation remains ongoing.
