LORAIN COUNTY, OH. (THECOUNT) — Eric Ackerman, of Sandusky, Ohio, has been identified as the pedestrian killed Wednesday night in a Henrietta Township double-fatal vehicle strike.
Ackerman, 44, was killed Wednesday night after he was struck by a vehicle on the Ohio Turnpike near Amherst.
According to reports, Ackerman was working as an Interstate Towing tow truck operator, when he exited his vehicle on the Ohio Turnpike in Amherst, and was struck by a vehicle, operated by a 30-year-old pickup truck driver, around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday in Lorain County.
Ackerman was pronounced dead at the scene of blunt force trauma injuries.
The driver of the vehicle Ackerman was assisting, was also killed in the collision. The name of that victim was not provided by officials as of Thursday morning.
The driver of the pickup was to an area hospital for unknown minor injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
