WILLIAMS TOWNSHIP, PA. (THECOUNT) — Nathan D. Giamoni, 48, of Phillipsburg, New Jersey, was killed Sunday after being thrown from his motorcycle during a crash on South Delaware Drive, also known as Route 611, in Easton, Pennsylvania, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
Williams Township is located in Northampton County in eastern Pennsylvania, along the Delaware River and near the New Jersey border. Phillipsburg is located directly across the Delaware River in neighboring Warren County, New Jersey.
The crash occurred shortly after 7 p.m. Aug. 9 in the 200 block of South Delaware Drive, according to a Pennsylvania State Police Belfast Station report released Monday.
Giamoni was operating a 2014 Harley-Davidson Low Rider southbound when he lost control of the motorcycle for an unknown reason, police said.
Giamoni was thrown from the motorcycle. The Harley-Davidson continued sliding into the northbound lane, where it was struck by a northbound 2024 Volvo XC60 driven by Jared G. Getz, 57, of East Bangor, Pennsylvania, according to investigators.
Following the collision, both the motorcycle and SUV became fully engulfed in flames, police said.
Giamoni was pronounced dead at the scene by the Northampton County Coroner’s Office. State police said he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Getz and his passenger, Ellen C. Getz, 55, also of East Bangor, were transported by the Easton Emergency Squad to St. Luke’s Hospital Anderson Campus.
Police listed Jared Getz as having a possible injury, while Ellen Getz was suspected of suffering a minor injury.
Pennsylvania State Police Belfast Station is investigating the fatal motorcycle crash. The agency has not released additional information regarding what caused Giamoni to lose control of the motorcycle.
The crash was among incidents included in a four-page public information release issued by the Belfast Station on Aug. 10. The PSP Belfast Station serves portions of Northampton County.
