FRANKLIN COUNTY, GA. (THECOUNT) — Georgia State Patrol deputy, William Garner, has been identified as the pedestrian fatally struck by a vehicle while assisting victims at an Interstate 85 crash scene Sunday Night in Franklin County.
Garner, 53, was killed while on-duty, after exiting his cruiser to tend to victims of an I-85 single-vehicle crash near Carnesville Sunday night.
According to reports, Garner had exited his patrol vehicle after he responded to a single-vehicle crash on I-85 near Carnesville. While he was assisting the victims, he was struck by a Honda Accord, operated by 21-year-old Abdulhafiz Abdullahi, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, around 7 p.m. Sunday.
Abdullahi was charged with first-degree homicide by vehicle. GSP said other charges are pending.
The cause of the deadly incident remains under investigation.
