VERSAILLES, KY. (THECOUNT) — A.P. Indy, known as one of the world’s greatest stallions, passed away Friday near Versailles, Kentucky.
Indy died at his longtime home at Lane’s End Farm near Versailles at the ripe old age of 31.
The son of Seattle Slew was unable to race in the Derby and Preakness at age three because of an injury, but went on to win the Belmont Stakes and the Breeders Cup. He was also “Horse of the Year.”
Indy went on to have a legendary stallion career with a $300,000 stud fee, producing Horses like Bernardini, Mineshaft, and Rags to Riches, reports Wave3.
31 years old is an uncommonly old for a thoroughbred.
