VA Woman Tamara Eddy ID’d As Victim In Sunday Boswell’s Corner Fatal Crash

STAFFORD, VA. (THECOUNT) — Tamara Eddy, of Richmond, Virginia, has been identified as the victim in a fatal Interstate 95 crash early Sunday morning in Stafford County, according to Virginia State Police. Eddy, 24, was a recent graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University, where she completed her studies in biology with a focus on bats during 2025.

The fatal collision occurred at approximately 1:06 a.m. Sunday along Interstate 95 northbound near the 146-mile marker in Boswell’s Corner, Stafford County.

According to Virginia State Police, Eddy was operating a Subaru traveling northbound on I-95 when the vehicle struck the rear of a Freightliner tractor-trailer that had reportedly stopped in the center lane because of an unrelated crash investigation or traffic incident ahead.

Investigators said the impact caused fatal injuries to Eddy. She was pronounced dead following the collision.

The driver of the Freightliner tractor-trailer was not injured, authorities confirmed.

Virginia State Police have not publicly released additional information regarding roadway conditions, visibility, traffic congestion, or whether speed may have contributed to the crash.

Interstate 95 through Stafford County serves as one of the busiest transportation corridors on the East Coast, carrying heavy overnight commercial and passenger traffic between the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area and central Virginia. Secondary crashes involving stopped or disabled vehicles frequently occur during overnight hours when visibility and traffic flow conditions can rapidly change.

Eddy had reportedly previously worked at Ripple Ray’s restaurant located in Richmond’s Carytown district.

Friends, former classmates, and members of the VCU community began sharing tributes online Sunday following news of her death.

VCU News had previously highlighted Eddy’s academic interests and research focus involving bat biology and wildlife-related studies during her time at the university.

Emergency responders temporarily impacted traffic along the northbound interstate while troopers conducted the on-scene investigation and removed damaged vehicles from the roadway.

Investigators continue examining the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision, including traffic conditions related to the unrelated earlier crash that reportedly caused the tractor-trailer to stop in the center lane.

The crash remains under active investigation by Virginia State Police.
