STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN. (THECOUNT) — “The Look” and “It Must Have Been Love,” Roxette singer, Marie Fredriksson has passed away. She was 61.
According to Swedish newspaper Expressen, Fredriksson’s family said in a statement,
“It is with great sadness that we have to announce that one of our biggest and most beloved artists is gone.”
Marie was diagnosed in 2002 and had undergone surgery to remove the tumor. It left her blind in one eye and with limited hearing, reports Ultimate-Guitar.
The family confirmed Marie’s “previous illness,” likely referring to the brain tumor Fredriksson battled, as the cause of death.
Roxette was founded as a duo in 1986 by Fredriksson on vocals and keyboards, and Per Gessle on vocals and guitar. Per stated through his social channels:
