KY Man Shemar Shackelford ID’d As Victim In Wednesday Louisville Fatal Shooting

LOUISVILLE, KY. (THECOUNT) — Shemar Shackelford has been identified as the victim in a fatal shooting Wednesday afternoon in Louisville, Kentucky, according to officials.

Shackelford was 30.

According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, Shackelford, a resident of Detroit, Michigan, was the individual who succumbed to injuries following a shooting in the Parkland neighborhood of Louisville.

Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) officers responded at approximately 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, to a reported shooting in the 3000 block of Greenwood Avenue. The location is within the Parkland neighborhood, situated in the western portion of the city.

Upon arrival, officers located Shackelford suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency responders transported him to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, he later died from his injuries.

The circumstances leading up to the shooting have not been released. Authorities have not identified any suspects and have not announced any arrests in connection with the case.

The LMPD Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation and continues to work to determine what led to the fatal shooting. Officials have not disclosed whether investigators have identified persons of interest or recovered any evidence from the scene.

The Parkland neighborhood is located west of downtown Louisville and is part of Jefferson County, the most populous county in Kentucky. The area consists of residential blocks connected by city streets, including Greenwood Avenue, where the shooting occurred.

Police are asking for the public’s assistance as the investigation continues. Anyone with information related to the shooting is urged to contact the Louisville Metro Police Department.
