PA Mother Melinda Abrams ID’d As Victim In Thursday Stoneboro Triple-Fatal House Fire Involving Children

SANDY LAKE TWP., PA. (THECOUNT) — Leroy Abrams, Amelia Abrams, and their mother, Melinda Abrams, have been identified as the victims in a fatal house fire early Thursday morning in Sandy Lake Township, Pennsylvania, according to officials.

Leroy Abrams was 12. Amelia Abrams was 16. Melinda Abrams was 48. All three were pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Mercer County Coroner’s Office, the victims were inside a residence located in the 1300 block of Walnut Street in Stoneboro when a fire broke out during the early morning hours of Thursday, April 16.

Fire and EMS crews were dispatched to the home following reports of a structure fire. A trooper with Pennsylvania State Police confirmed that five individuals were inside the residence at the time of the incident.

Authorities said two adults were able to escape the home. Two juveniles and one adult, identified as the Abrams family members, were unable to exit the residence and died as a result of the fire.

Melinda Abrams was identified as the mother of Leroy Abrams and Amelia Abrams.

Officials have not released information regarding the condition of the two surviving occupants. It remains unclear whether they sustained injuries.

Pennsylvania State Police indicated that multiple pets also died in the fire.

The fire caused significant damage to the residence. Authorities reported that windows were blown out and much of the structure was heavily damaged.

The cause and manner of death for the three victims remain pending, according to the Mercer County Coroner’s Office.

Pennsylvania State Police said the cause of the fire remains under investigation. At this time, troopers have indicated that no foul play is suspected.

Sandy Lake Township is located in Mercer County in western Pennsylvania, near the borough of Sandy Lake and within driving distance of the Ohio state line. The area consists primarily of residential and rural communities served by local roadways.

Investigators continue to review the circumstances surrounding the fire. Officials have not indicated when additional findings may be released.
