ME Man Steven Caouette ID’d As Victim in Wednesday Wales Fatal Harley Crash

WALES, ME. (THECOUNT) — Steven Albert Caouette has been identified as the victim in a fatal single-vehicle motorcycle crash Wednesday evening in Wales, Maine, according to authorities.

Caouette was 51.

According to the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 6 p.m. Wednesday to a report of a motorcycle crash along Route 197, also known as Litchfield Road, in the town of Wales, located in Androscoggin County in south-central Maine.

Investigators say Caouette, a resident of nearby Litchfield, was operating a Harley Davidson motorcycle on Route 197 when he failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. The motorcycle left the travel portion of the road and struck a utility pole.

Deputies said the impact caused the utility pole to break and fall into the roadway. Caouette was ejected from the motorcycle during the crash sequence.

Responding deputies located Caouette at the scene suffering from injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, and no additional injuries were reported.

The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office has not released information regarding other potential contributing factors as the investigation remains ongoing.

The crash occurred along Route 197, a two-lane roadway that runs through Wales and connects nearby communities including Litchfield and areas surrounding the Lewiston-Auburn region. The route serves as a local connector for residential and commuter traffic within Androscoggin County.

Wales is a small town located in southern Androscoggin County, situated between Lewiston and Augusta, and is part of a region characterized by rural roads and connecting routes between neighboring municipalities.

Deputies continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Officials have not indicated whether additional information will be released as the case remains under review.

Anyone with information related to the incident is encouraged to contact the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office.
