CLOVIS, CA. (THECOUNT) — Rogelio Alvarez has been identified by the California Highway Patrol as the suspect they say killed Fort Washington Elementary School Vice Principal Gavin Gladding back last Sunday.
Alvarez, 18, faces multiple charges including vehicular manslaughter, felony hit and run, and driving without a license, said CHP spokesman Sgt. Dave Salcido, who laid out the series of events that led up to the arrest.
According to Salcido the Clovis Police Department received a credible tip on the location of the vehicle involved in the incident, which turned out to be a midnight blue 2006 Chevy Silverado. While officers were at the scene they got a phone call from the suspect’s attorney, Eddie Ruiz, who said his client would be surrendering himself to the CHP Friday night. source
Investigators say the vehicle was parked at the home of Alvarez’s parents.
The family of Gladding made a public appeal earlier today for the suspect to turn himself in.
Students at Fort Washington Elementary in Clovis held a tribute to Gladding Friday afternoon.
Anyone with additional information on the incident should contact police at 911.
