UPDATE: TX Hit-And-Run Suspect Arrested After 13-Year-Old Girl Dies In El Paso Walking Home From School

EL PASO, TX. (THECOUNT) — Police said the driver involved in the hit-and-run has been identified as 17-year-old Samuel Thomas Garcia. The teenager turned himself in after an arrest warrant was issued for his arrest. Family of Giselle Martinez, the Texas 13-year-old girl struck and killed by a hit-and-run vehicle in El Paso Friday is speaking out, calling for the “coward” driver to come forward.

The young girl was struck by a vehicle while walking home from School at about 5:20 p.m. and then transported to the hospital in critical condition where she later died. The family posted a picture of the victim as she lay in her hospital bed still clinging to life while asking for the driver responsible to come forward.

A man, identifying himself as the victim’s Uncle, posted the following on Facebook about the tragic incident:

Yesterday my niece and nephew were walking home from school Lincoln High School via Montoya Rd and Redd.

A truck without any empathy or respect for human life hit my 13 yr old niece and left her on the road bleeding.

She finds herself fighting for her life, yet YOU that committed such heinous and coward act decides to hide behind the shadows.

The medical team is in the process of making their final diagnosis, sadly their is little brain activity and is diminishing as we speak.

I have no clue how her parents and I will find you, but I promise you. Your cowardly act will come to light, and you will pay for this.

Police say the truck involved is dark or silver in color, and was likely driven by a man.
