A tragic accident has claimed the life of Manvel High School student, De’Monte Benn, who was struck and killed by a vehicle on Highway 6, near Iowa Colony.
The tragic accident happened right before 8 a.m. Monday not far from the school. Manvel High School’s principal, Bobby Martinez confirmed the sad news that took the life of the 18-year-old.
“De’Monte is a beloved member of the MHS community. This is an extremely difficult time for those that knew and cared for him. We share this information with the parents of our students so that you are able to provide your children with the support and assistance they need during this difficult time. Please be vigilant to determine what level of support your child may need.” source
Martinez added that counselors from Alvin ISD’s Crisis Response Team are at Manvel High School to offer support to students and staff that are struggling with this tragic loss.
The area of the death, which houses a million dollar stadium, has been criticized in the past for the lack of sidewalks for children to travel to and from school.
