U.S. immigration officials say, Silvestre Franco-Luviano, the man suspected of a double murder in Cedar Hill, a Dallas suburb, was in the country illegally. Franco-Luviano had been deported three times to Mexico prior to the killings.
Franco-Luviano was arrested Tuesday at an apartment in Georgetown, about 25 miles north of Austin. Ruben Moreno, 23, of Duncanville and Walton Betts, 44 of Cedar Hill were his victims.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said in a statement Wednesday that an immigration detainer has been placed on the 40-year-old Mexican national. He remains in the Williamson County Jail in Georgetown on a murder warrant in the Sunday night slaying of a motorist in Dallas. He’s also a suspect in the slaying that same night of a man at a Cedar Hill gas station. Georgetown police also have filed vehicle burglary charges against him. h/t ap
ICE records showed Franco-Luviano had been deported in June 1996, October 2009 and March 2014.
The murders were the first violent crime in Cedar Hill this year. The city is known for its very low crime rate.
