Please Help Free the Killer Whales from SeaWorld’s Prison!

Killer Whale

Peta.org is shedding light on the recent death of one of SeaWorld’s killer whale trainers. This is a big wake-up call reminding us that holding wild animals captive is not okay. We need to band together and make a statement that we will not stand for this. Peta.org released this important announcement in regards to the death of the SeaWorld trainer, and the fate of holding killer whales captive:

“In aquariums, dolphins and other sea animals routinely die prematurely of stress and other captivity-related causes, and SeaWorld has an abysmal record. But it’s not just animals who are dying as a result of this industry: Human injuries and deaths are also common.

The most recent death of yet another trainer at SeaWorld did not have to happen, and this is not the first time a trainer has been seized, thrown against the walls of the tank, and held down to drown.

The intelligent, social ocean animals kept in the pitifully small tanks at SeaWorld are denied everything that is natural and important to them. In the wild, they swim up to 100 miles a day in the open ocean, but captured dolphins are confined to small tanks where the reverberations from their own sonar bounce off the walls, driving some of them insane. Some of these animals were violently captured from their homes, many are forced to learn circus-style tricks, and according to whistleblower tips from trainers, withholding food and isolating animals who refuse to perform are common training methods.

The only thing that people learn from visiting a SeaWorld theme park is how miserable life is for animals held there. Children see mere shadows of animals, defeated beings who are not behaving as they should and cannot do what nature intended for them. And these parks teach all the wrong lessons: that it is acceptable to imprison animals; to deprive them of freedom of movement and thought; to forbid them the chance to establish their natural territory and explore; to breed and separate them as we, not they, please; and to let them go insane from loneliness.”

Peta.org also has a form attached in this story, where you can write to the “Blackstone Group”, who owns SeaWorld, and protest your thoughts in a personalized letter that will be sent to ‘Hamilton James’ at the Blackstone Group.

Here is the brief letter that I wrote to the Blackstone Group:

It is cruel to hold these killer whales captive to make money! They are too big for these little bathtub-cages you put them in. They are tired of it! We the people are tired of it!
I’ve got power of the press and I am using it right now to make people aware of what Seaworld and other similar organizations are doing wrong.
Sea World needs to close it’s doors now and set the killer whales FREE!

Please help by going to this link at Peta.org and write your own letter to the Blackstone Group to help save the future of the killer whales!

  • I think that Lauren Edwards should stop this horrific crime. My suggestion? If she farts all of the orcas in captivity will break free. NICE

  • People need to get their facts straight. First, Orca's don't eat sea horses. There have been no orca attacks that have ever occurred by orca's in the wild, the only orca attacks that have occurred have been when the orca was in captivity and even then there have only been 6 deaths by orca. Third, over 5.4 million people are killed each year by smoking worldwide and I don't think their have been any deaths by randy pigeons!!! Get your facts straight. Oh and another thing, orcas by are supposed to have 48 foot tanks and that are at least 12 feet deep. The average orca is about 24 feet long. The orcas take up half the length of the tank that they are supposed to live in and people think that's fair. Well personally, I think it's perfectly fine to rehabilitate animals and keep them in captivity until they are capable to be out in the ocean again, but I believe that every marine mammal that is taken out of the ocean should be returned. The same goes for sharks, turtles, and really all other wild animals. Humans have taken over the world, and the animals are getting pissed, hence all the attacks. Sooner or later, they're gonna try and take it back.

  • if it was up to me all orcas would be in captivity. they are a menace in the ocean and need to be stopped. did you know that one killer whale can consume over 3000 sea horses an hour! Unbelievable!! They also kill more people per year than smoking and randy pigeons. The buggers!

  • It's so wrong. It is amazing that people can visit these places and enjoy themselves when they are simply passing by the suffering of killer whales and, in fact, all sorts of marine animals. You can not underestimate what they are capable of and you need to think that if you had to live the way they have for as long as they have you would be angry too. I'm never going to change the way I feel about this and I hope none of you do either.

  • a killer whale can not really kill a human they dont really harm them so i dont know what you people are going on about!!!

  • on the PRO SIDE. few kids who watched shamu will fall in love with animal n grow up to be a vet., biologist, scientist to help their cost for whole species. we have better understanding and appreciation for animals because of zoos and seaworld. its not like these companies beat these animals like the circus

  • I think it should be deemed illegal to captivate all Dolphin mammals including Orcas. Sea World should be required to rehabilitate all their Orcas to prepare them for a return to the wild. They should all go together so they can form their own Pod. We know from Keikos story that although he socialized with other orcas, he did not bond to a Pod. So they must give the Orcas a Pod by freeing them together since they already know one another. Otherwise, they may become lonely and confused and become ill from stress then
kill themselves like Keiko did beaching himself.
They MUST be released together to improve their chances of survival. Both the Orcas and the other Dolphins.

  • yeah, the cherokee and tuscarora in me tells me it is wrong. i don't spend money on animal captivity and feel hurt in my heart empathizing with them when i see this. my spirit pulls against it like the whale did, needing to follow instinct Creator put in us all. Why the wasichus have never understood that the earth is not a thing to be tortured for their appetites, i have never understood, i am just glad i was given a spirit that i answer to that makes me speak and act in behalf of the earth. I feel it is a message from Creator from our brothers the two and four legged and the finned, to make the world listen. I tell you what I beLIEve, seaworld, that your cash cow has just jumped the corral and these places will be shut down. The people will rise up and stop this obscenity against nature.
