Fresno men, Hollis Priest and Dustin Petersen have been arrested after authorities determined one of the men faked his own kidnapping in an effort to extort money from his father.
Priest, 35 and Petersen, 30 were taken into custody while in the process of trying to collect ransom money at fast food restaurant, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.
Sheriff’s Office spokesman Tony Botti says both Priest and Petersen have extensive criminal histories and are methamphetamine users. Continue reading
Kyle Johnson, the man charged in Tuesday’s fatal home invasion attack on an Erie woman, has been found dead in his prison cell Sunday afternoon, Erie County District Attorney Jack Daneri confirmed.
EMS were called to the Erie County Prison around 3 p.m. Sunday and pronounced Johnson dead. Authorities are conducting an investigation into the cause of the death.
Johnson, 25, was arraigned on amended charges, including criminal homicide and murder in the first degree, after Kum Miller passed away from her injuries Saturday morning at UPMC Hamot. Continue reading
A serious accident has shut down the New Jersey Turnpike in South Brunswick.
New Jersey State Police closed the inner and outer southbound lanes of the New Jersey Turnpike north of interchange 8A. EMS is on scene. Several vehicle could be seen overturned.
Early police reports indicate at least one overturned vehicle and multiple injuries. Traffic is back up for at least two miles. Residual traffic delays are reported on Route 535 and Route 32.h/t mycentraljersey

A U.S. Capitol is on lockdown after a Police officer was shot Monday at the Capitol Visitor Center complex. The shooter was taken into custody, Capitol officials and police said.
The event unfolded with Congress on recess and lawmakers back in their districts.
It occurred in the Visitors Center of the sprawling Capitol Complex.Staffers, reporters and others were told to “shelter in place” and not allowed to leave their offices. The White House and the Capitol complex were put on lockdown. Continue reading
Female Virginia police officer, Ashley Guindon, who was shot after responding to a domestic dispute, was killed one day after being sworn in the force. Two other cops were also shot but are expected to survive.
The suspect, Ronald Hamilton, 32, a military serviceman, was taken into custody. He reportedly killed a civilian woman before officers arrived. A young child was discovered unharmed.
Officers received a call around 5:30 Saturday evening in Woodbridge, about 30 miles southwest of the nation’s capital, about a “verbal argument,” Sgt. Jonathan Perok, spokesman of the Prince William County Police Department, said. Continue reading

A grand jury involved in investigating allegations of misconduct against Planned Parenthood, instead indicted two of the filmmakers who exposed the organization in a series of hidden camera videos.
Harris County district attorney, Devon Anderson, said Monday that the director of the Center for Medical Progress, David Daleiden, had been indicted on a felony charge of “tampering with a governmental record” and a misdemeanor count related to purchasing human organs.

Prosecutors have charged, Lakeisha Holloway, the woman who drove her vehicle over a sidewalk on the Las Vegas Strip, killing one and injuring 35, with 71 counts, including 30 counts of attempted murder with a deadly weapon with 4 of those counts enhanced because the victims were 60 or older.
Hollyway, 24, was also charged with 2 counts of child abuse because an 11-year-old was struck by the car and Holloway’s own 3-year-old daughter occupied the vehicle during the horrifying crash.

Rice, a black youngster, was holding what turned out to be a realistic pellet gun.
