MS Woman Ashlee Sims ID’d As Pedestrian Fatally Struck Tuesday Night In Jackson

HINDS COUNTY, MS. (THECOUNT) — Ashlee Sierra Sims, of Jackson, Mississippi, has been identified as the pedestrian in a fatal Tuesday night vehicle strike in Hinds County.

Sims, 26, was killed while broadcasting on Facebook Live on Interstate 55 near Jackson Tuesday night.

According to reports, Sims was operating a vehicle on I-55 near Briarwood Drive in Jackson, when she exited the vehicle after dropping her cellphone out the window. Sims exited her vehicle in an effort to retrieve the device when she was struck by a passing vehicle around 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Sims was reportedly recording on Facebook Live at the time of her death.

IL Pair Montana Brown & Kyle DeKruif ID’d As Victims In Thursday Wauconda Double-Fatal Crash

WAUCONDA, IL. (THECOUNT) — Montana Brown, of Gurnee, Illinois, and Kyle DeKruif, of Island Lake, Illinois, have been identified as the victims in a double-fatal crash in Wauconda Thursday.

Brown, 24, and DeKruif, 25, were both killed in a two-vehicle head-on crash involving a delivery truck in Wauconda Thursday.

According to reports, DeKruif was operating a Honda Odyssey traveling the wrong-way on Route 12 when it collided head-on with a delivery truck near Route 59 in Wauconda around about 2:15 a.m.

DeKruif and his passenger Brown were both killed in the Odyssey.

The driver of the delivery truck suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

IL Lawyer Randy Gori Found Dead Saturday Night In Edwardsville Home Rolls Royce SUV Missing

EDWARDSVILLE, IL. (THECOUNT) — Randy Lee Gori, of Edwardsville, Illinois, has been identified as the victim found deceased in his home Saturday night. His 2020 Rolls Royce SUV Cullinan missing.

Gori, 47, is the subject of a Major Case Squad investigation after he was found dead in his Edwardsville home Saturday night.

According to authorities, police responded to 4586 Mooney Creek Ln in Edwardsville, IL, on reports of an unknown disturbance around 9 p.m. When officials arrived, Gori was found dead inside the home.

While investigating the scene, deputies discovered a 2020 Rolls Royce SUV Cullinan was missing from the property, reports KSDK.

More than 25 investigators from law enforcement agencies in the area are now helping in the investigation.

The Major Case Squad is asking for the public’s help in finding the Rolls Royce. Anyone who sees it or knows anything else about the case is asked to call 618-296-5544.

A cause of death was not provided as of Sunday morning.

Investigators are not releasing any further details at this time.

According to public records, Gory was the founder of MedServe Record Retrieval Services. He was a managing partner at The Gori Law Firm P.C.

JOLIET, IL. (THECOUNT) — Joliet, Illinois, Thayer Brothers Deli & Grille owner, Ann Thayer, has passed away, according to Thursday reports. She was 85.

Thayer, owner and operator of the popular Ruby Street deli, has died. She had been hospitalized briefly.

“I used to run into Mrs. Thayer almost every morning at Jewel on Theodore and Larkin Ave. I would stand next to her picking out fresh veggies. I finally had the courage, after eating a delicious meal at her restaurant, to tell her that I aspire to be like her… making fresh food that people love. She was so tickled to hear that and she sat down to chat with me about restaurant life. A Joliet staple and a hero to me. She will be missed!” one woman commented on the restaurant’s Facebook page, reports Patch.

The eatery is located at, 753 Ruby St in Joliet, IL.

The social media page for Mayor Bob O’Dekirk also alerted its followers to Wednesday’s sad news.

One of her children is Tom Thayer, the Chicago Bears Super Bowl champion who now serves as a game day announcer.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.

IL Teen Kaylee Mehochko ID’d As Victim In Sunday Sherman Rail Golf Course Pond Submersion Vehicle-Crash

SHERMAN, IL. (THECOUNT) — Kaylee Mehochko has been identified as the Quincy, Illinois teenager killed in a submersion vehicle crash in a golf course pond in Sherman on Sunday night, according to reports.

Mehochko, 16, died Sunday after her vehicle plunged into a golf course pond in Sherman, Illinois, around 10:30 p.m. Sunday night, the Sangamon County Coroner said.

Coroner Cinda Edwards said Tuesday that Mehochko was recovered from a sunken vehicle at the scene by Springfield Fire Department divers.

Edwards said CPR was started at the scene and Mehochko was taken to Memorial Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. Edwards said the cause of death was drowning, reports WGEM.

Edwards said Mehochko was the driver of the vehicle. She said a passenger was able to exit and swim to safety. ISP said the passenger had non-life threatening injuries.

The Sherman Police Department and the Illinois State Police are both investigating the incident.

IL Woman Laura Schmersahl Dies In ICU Following Manhattan Crash Monday

MANHATTAN, IL. (THECOUNT) — Laura Mae Schmersahl, the Du Bois, IL woman involved in a Monday vehicle crash in Manhattan, Illinois, has passed away of her injuries in an area hospital, according to Tuesday reports.

(Caswell) Schmersahl, 55, died following a vehicle crash in Manhattan Township on Monday, the Will County Coroner’s Office said.

Schmersahl died at 6:51 p.m. Monday at the Silver Cross Intensive Care Unit, reports Patch.

Police said a Toyota, which Schmersahl was driving, was traveling on West Offner Road approaching the stop sign at Route 52, while the Ford was traveling northbound on Route 52. The Toyota turned onto Route 52 in front of the Ford and was t-boned in the intersection, reports Patch.

Both Schmersahl, originally from Elkton, Illinois, and the driver of the Ford, a 55-year-old man from Manteno, were taken to Silver Cross Hospital with serious injuries.

Schmersahl was later pronounced dead of injuries sustained in the violent collision.

Frantic Search On For ‘Robin Becker’ Independence MO Woman ‘Disappeared’ During Craigslist Cell Phone Meetup

INDEPENDENCE, MO. (THECOUNT) — The search is on for missing Independence, MO, woman, Robin L. Becker, who went missing Friday evening while meeting someone in a Craigslist transaction.

Becker, 30, disappeared after leaving her home with a man to get cash in a cell phone deal arranged on Craigslist Friday night.

Independence police are now asking for the public’s help to find the missing 30-year-old woman Independence who lives on North Cottage Avenue near Brady Park in Independence.

Police said Robin L. Becker has not been seen since midnight Friday when she left her home, off of North Cottage Avenue, with a man she met on Craigslist. She was planning to buy a cell phone because her screen was broken, reports FOX4KC.

Police said she left with the man to go get money to pay for the phone but never returned home.

The two left in a white 1992-1995 Ford F-250 dually long-bed pickup truck.

Police described the person she was with as a black male with a scar across the right side of his face. He was wearing a green shirt with writing on it.

Becker is approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs 160 pounds. She has red hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing a gray and white halter top with black leggings and black shoes.

IL Man Sean Burgess ID’d As Saturday Drowning Victim During MO Lake Of The Ozarks Shootout Race

CAMDEN COUNTY, MO. (THECOUNT) — Sean Burgess, of Peoria, Illinois, has been identified as the drowning victim in the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri on Saturday afternoon.

Burgess, 23, was reportedly participating in a boat race Saturday afternoon when he was reported missing by his group.

Witnesses told authorities Burgess was last seen on a ‘Maui Mat’ float pad by his friends and family watching the Lake Shootout. The Missouri State Highway Patrol said on Twitter Burgess jumped off a floating pad and didn’t resurface, reports CentralIllinoisProud.

MSHP and Mid-County dive team recovered Burgess’ body at 10:47 p.m. in 37 feet of water.

IL Man Jovan Torbert In Custody Over July 4th Murder Of Springfield Woman Shanay Moore

SPRINGFIELD, IL. (THECOUNT) — Jovan Torbert has been identified as the suspect taken into custody over the July murder of Springfield woman Shanay Moore.

Moore, 29, was found murdered on July 4th inside a residence on Bryant Lane, in Springfield, Illinois.

Springfield police confirm that 34-year-old Torbert was taken into custody in Lake County, Indiana, reports NewsChannel20.

Torbert was charged with three counts of first-degree murder and one count of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.

A motive in the killing was not provided by officials.

IL Woman Jamie Poulos ID’d As Victim In Sunday Fatal Uber Involved Chicago Crash

CHICAGO, IL. (THECOUNT) — Jamie Poulos of Berwyn, Illinois, has been identified as the victim killed in a fiery fatal crash on Interstate 55 involving an Uber vehicle.

Poulos was killed while out celebrating her 23rd birthday with friends. Rami Matariyeh, 23, of Homer Glen, is due in court Tuesday on reckless homicide charges in the I-55 vehicle death of Poulos.

The Chicago Tribune reports authorities say Matariyeh fled in a ride-hailing car after causing the crash. Police say he was drunk when he fled Sunday after his sedan crashed into Poulos’ Uber ride. Illinois State Police ran the license plates on Matariyeh’s vehicle and Will County sheriff’s police were at his home when he arrived, asleep in his Uber ride, reports WGNTV.

Matariyeh was treated for his injuries and taken into police custody.

According to social media, Poulos was a popular shift manager at Starbucks. She attended Morton College and Morton West High School.
