BLOOMINGTON, IN. (THECOUNT) — Noah Slinkard, 24, was shot and killed Thursday night in Bloomington, Monroe County, Indiana, and Jaymon Trey Gilreath, 23, has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting, police said.
Bloomington Police Department officers responded around 8:15 p.m. Thursday, October 8, to reports of a shooting in the 1000 block of North Illinois Street. Multiple callers reported that a man had been shot and that the suspected shooter was walking east on West 13th Street, according to a police news release.

Officers found Slinkard near the front door of an apartment with a gunshot wound to the head. Emergency responders transported him to IU Health Bloomington Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:49 p.m., police said.
Witnesses told investigators that Gilreath was in a relationship with Slinkard’s former girlfriend. According to police, Slinkard had been sitting on the apartment’s front porch with another man when Gilreath approached them on foot.
The other man told investigators he saw Gilreath pull a handgun from his waistband and shoot Slinkard before turning and walking away.
Officers located Gilreath at approximately 8:23 p.m. and took him into custody. During a subsequent search of the route he allegedly took after the shooting, investigators found a 9 mm handgun in a holster near a park bench in the 1300 block of West 13th Street. Police suspect the weapon was used in the shooting and seized it as evidence.
After interviewing Gilreath and other individuals, police took him to IU Health Bloomington Hospital for a medical evaluation before transporting him to the Monroe County Jail, where he was charged with murder.
Bloomington is the county seat of Monroe County in south-central Indiana, approximately 50 miles southwest of Indianapolis. The shooting occurred in the city’s urban area, where Bloomington police continue to investigate the fatal incident.
