MANSFIELD, OH. (THECOUNT) — Tyler Carr, a sergeant with the Ohio State Highway Patrol assigned to the Mansfield Post, has died following an off-duty traffic crash, the agency announced Thursday.

The incident occurred around 4:00 pm on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at the intersection of Ohio 545 and Olivesburg-Fitchville Road in Ashland, involving a collision between his motorcycle and a car.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol shared the news in a statement posted to its verified social media accounts, expressing condolences to Carr’s family, colleagues and fellow troopers.

“It is with great sorrow that the Ohio State Highway Patrol announces the off-duty death of Sergeant Tyler Carr of the Mansfield Post, who passed away following a tragic traffic crash today,” the agency said.

“Our thoughts are with Sergeant Carr’s family, the Mansfield Post, the Bucyrus District and the Patrol family as a whole,” the statement continued.
