Ben Affleck Mother Dies Following Pancreatic Cancer Battle

NEW YORK, NY. (THECOUNT)Chris Anne Affleck, 83, of New York City, the mother of Academy Award-winning actors Ben Affleck and Casey Affleck, died June 2 following a battle with pancreatic cancer, according to her obituary. She was diagnosed with the disease in December.

New York City is the nation’s largest metropolitan area and the birthplace of Chris Anne Affleck, who would go on to become a longtime educator, civil rights advocate and an influential figure in her sons’ early acting careers.

Born in 1942, Affleck graduated from Harvard University and dedicated 35 years of her life to teaching in public schools. Family members described her as a passionate advocate for civil rights and education throughout her lifetime.

She married Timothy Affleck, and the couple welcomed two sons, Ben in 1972 and Casey in 1975. Around 1975, the family relocated to Massachusetts, where the future Hollywood stars spent much of their childhood. The couple later divorced when Ben was 12 years old.

Affleck played a significant role in encouraging her sons’ interest in acting at an early age. She introduced young Ben to a former Harvard roommate who had become a casting director, helping him secure auditions for commercials and made-for-television productions that would ultimately launch his entertainment career.

Her support of her sons continued throughout their rise in Hollywood. One of her most memorable public appearances came at the 70th Academy Awards in 1998, when she accompanied Ben Affleck as his date for the ceremony. Actor Matt Damon attended with his mother, Nancy Damon, as his guest.

That evening, Ben Affleck and Damon won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for “Good Will Hunting,” marking one of the defining moments of both their careers. Photographs from the ceremony featuring Affleck proudly standing alongside her son remain among the family’s most celebrated public memories.

Beyond her connection to Hollywood, Affleck spent decades working as an educator and advocate, earning the admiration of family and friends for her commitment to public service and social causes.

Her obituary noted that she remained devoted to education and civil rights throughout her life while maintaining a close relationship with her family.

No additional details regarding funeral or memorial arrangements have been publicly released.
