NY Man Jayson Mess ID’d As Victim In Saturday Burns Fatal Motorcycle Crash

BURNS, NY. (THECOUNT) — Jayson Mess, 50, has been identified as the victim of a fatal motorcycle crash late Saturday night near Canaseraga in Allegany County, New York.

According to New York State Police, troopers responded at approximately 10:30 p.m. Saturday to a report of an unoccupied motorcycle located on the shoulder of State Route 70 near the Town of Burns.

Following an investigation, authorities determined that Mess, of Canaseraga, had been operating the motorcycle when it left the roadway and struck a signpost.

Police said the motorcycle was discovered on the shoulder of the highway after the crash occurred.

Mess was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash occurred along State Route 70 in Burns, a rural community in Allegany County located in the Southern Tier region of western New York. The area is characterized by rolling terrain, agricultural land, and a network of state and county highways connecting small towns throughout the region.

Canaseraga, where Mess resided, is a village in Allegany County situated several miles east of Burns. The community is part of a largely rural section of western New York known for farming, outdoor recreation, and small-town residential areas.

State Route 70 serves as an east-west roadway through portions of Allegany County and neighboring areas. The route provides access to local communities, agricultural operations, and regional transportation corridors throughout the Southern Tier.

New York State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Authorities have not released additional information regarding events leading up to the collision or the length of time that elapsed between the crash and the discovery of the motorcycle.

No other vehicles were reported to have been involved in the incident based on information released by investigators.

Fatal motorcycle crashes remain a focus of traffic safety investigations throughout New York State, where law enforcement agencies routinely examine roadway evidence and scene conditions as part of ongoing reviews. In this case, officials have not announced any additional findings beyond the preliminary information released Sunday.

Allegany County is located along New York’s southern border with Pennsylvania and includes numerous rural roadways traversing wooded areas, farmland, and small municipalities. Communities throughout the county rely heavily on state routes such as Route 70 for local and regional travel.

The investigation remains active, and additional information may be released as authorities complete their review of the fatal crash.
