Iowa Woman Bridget Hillyer ID’d As Victim In Fatal Scott County Dump Truck Crash

SCOTT COUNTY, Iowa (THECOUNT) — Bridget Hillyer, a Scott County employee, was killed Monday morning following a rollover crash involving a county-owned dump truck on New Liberty Road near Maysville, according to authorities.

Hillyer was pronounced dead at a hospital after suffering injuries in the crash.

The fatal accident occurred at approximately 7:45 a.m. Monday on New Liberty Road in rural Scott County, located in eastern Iowa near the Quad Cities metropolitan area. Authorities said Hillyer was employed by the Scott County Secondary Roads Department and was operating a county-owned dump truck at the time of the incident.

According to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, Hillyer was traveling east on New Liberty Road while hauling a load of gravel when she lost control of the vehicle. The dump truck subsequently left the roadway and rolled into a ditch.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene following reports of the rollover. Hillyer was transported from the crash site for medical treatment but later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Officials have not released Hillyer’s age.

The crash occurred near Maysville, an unincorporated community in Scott County situated northwest of Davenport. The area is characterized by rural roadways frequently used by agricultural, construction, and county maintenance vehicles.

County-owned dump trucks are commonly utilized by secondary roads departments throughout Iowa for road maintenance projects, including the transportation and distribution of gravel and other roadway materials. Authorities have not indicated whether weather, roadway conditions, mechanical issues, or any other factors contributed to the crash.

The Iowa State Patrol has assumed the investigation and is working to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal rollover. Investigators have not released additional information regarding the sequence of events leading up to the crash.

Officials have not announced whether any witnesses observed the incident, and no other injuries were reported in connection with the crash.

The investigation remains active.
