SALISBURY, N.C. (THECOUNT) — Dwayne Muhamed Mutevelic, 35, of Salisbury, North Carolina, was killed Sunday afternoon in a motorcycle crash on Statesville Boulevard, according to authorities.
The fatal crash occurred Sunday, May 17, in Salisbury, a city located in Rowan County in central North Carolina.
Officials confirmed Mutevelic died as a result of injuries sustained in the motorcycle collision.
Authorities have not yet publicly released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The Salisbury Police Department Traffic Safety Unit is conducting a full investigation into the incident.
No information has been released regarding other vehicles potentially involved, roadway conditions, speed, or possible contributing factors.
Following news of Mutevelic’s death, tributes from community organizations and friends appeared across social media.
The J.F. Hurley YMCA shared a statement honoring Mutevelic, describing him as a former coworker who would be “deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.”
The Forum of Salisbury also released a public statement recognizing Mutevelic as a member of its fitness community.
Forum owner Matthew Marsh described Mutevelic as encouraging and positive, saying he was “a good guy to be around.”
Marsh also stated Mutevelic had a strong presence and “did not know a stranger.”
The crash prompted an emergency response Sunday afternoon as police officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, and investigators responded to Statesville Boulevard.
Traffic in the area was affected while authorities investigated the scene and cleared the roadway.
Officials have not announced whether any charges or citations are anticipated as the investigation continues.
Motorcycle fatalities remain a significant traffic safety concern throughout North Carolina due to the limited protection motorcycles provide during collisions.
Authorities stated additional information may be released as the investigation progresses.
