MD Man Mason Alkire ID’d As Rider In Monday TX Fatal Motorcycle Crash

JONES COUNTY, TEXAS (THECOUNT) — Mason Alkire, of Barton, Maryland, has been identified as the motorcyclist killed Monday evening in a crash involving a pickup truck and trailer in Jones County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. Alkire was 22.

The fatal collision occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. Monday along State Highway 6 south of Farm-to-Market Road 704 in Jones County, located north of Abilene in West Texas.

According to a preliminary investigation by DPS, Alkire was operating a 2025 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle traveling northbound on State Highway 6 at what authorities described as an excessive rate of speed.

Investigators said the motorcycle was traveling northbound and attempted to overtake another vehicle prior to the collision.

Authorities stated a 2022 Ford F-350 towing a 2025 Big Tex dump semi-trailer was also traveling northbound on the highway ahead of the motorcycle.

The truck was being driven by Jeremy Harris, 42, of Stamford, Texas, according to DPS.

After overtaking another vehicle, Alkire returned to the northbound lane but failed to control his speed, investigators said.

The motorcycle subsequently collided with the rear of the Ford truck and attached dump trailer.

Alkire sustained fatal injuries in the crash.

Jones County Justice of the Peace Cheryl Guernsey pronounced him dead at the scene.

DPS confirmed Alkire was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

Authorities said Harris was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.

No other injuries were reported.

The crash occurred along a rural stretch of State Highway 6 in Jones County, an area frequently traveled by commercial vehicles, agricultural traffic, and regional motorists traveling between smaller West Texas communities.

Emergency personnel remained at the scene Monday evening while troopers documented evidence, examined the damaged motorcycle and trailer, and coordinated traffic operations along the highway.

Traffic in the area was impacted during the on-scene investigation.

Authorities have not publicly announced whether alcohol or drugs are suspected factors in the collision.

No charges have been announced.

The Texas Department of Public Safety continues to investigate the fatal crash.

No additional information was immediately released.
