MONROE COUNTY, GA. (THECOUNT) — A Macon man is dead after losing control of his vehicle on the Interstate 75 southbound entrance ramp at Johnstonville Road in Monroe County, Georgia, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office reported. Jarhaad Bass was ejected from his Honda Accord when the vehicle overturned and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Bass, aka, Curtis Snow, a rising rapper, was 25 years old.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the fatal crash occurred at approximately 11:58 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, at the I-75 southbound entrance ramp off Johnstonville Road in Forsyth — Exit 193 on the interstate. Deputies who responded to the scene found Bass’s Honda Accord overturned. The preliminary investigation indicates Bass lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway, and the car overturned, ejecting him. The crash remains under investigation.
Bass was a resident of Macon, the seat of Bibb County, located approximately 14 miles south of the crash scene along I-75. Macon is the fifth-largest city in Georgia, with a population of approximately 157,000, and serves as the commercial and cultural hub of central Georgia. The city sits at the confluence of the Ocmulgee River and the Fall Line — the geologic boundary between Georgia’s Piedmont plateau and the Coastal Plain.
Johnstonville Road intersects I-75 at Exit 193 in the northern portion of Monroe County, roughly 6 miles north of Forsyth, the Monroe County seat. The exit serves rural residential communities to the east, including the River Forest golf course community, and connects westward to Johnstonville and the Lamar County city of Barnesville approximately 9 miles away. The area surrounding Exit 193 is largely rural and timbered, with limited development along the interstate corridor.
Monroe County is located in central Georgia, situated between Bibb County to the south and Butts and Lamar counties to the north. The county covers approximately 394 square miles and had a population of roughly 28,000 as of the 2020 census. Forsyth, the county seat, lies about 14 miles north of Macon and approximately 60 miles south of Atlanta along I-75. The interstate is the primary north-south artery through the county and carries heavy commercial truck and passenger vehicle traffic between Atlanta and central and south Georgia.
Single-vehicle rollover crashes involving ejection are among the most survivable when occupants are wearing seat belts, and among the most fatal when they are not. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has not released information on whether Bass was belted at the time of the crash.
I-75 is one of the busiest interstate corridors in the southeastern United States, connecting the Florida state line south of Valdosta to the Tennessee border near Dalton and serving as a major conduit for both tourism and freight traffic through Georgia. The stretch of I-75 through Monroe County runs through largely undeveloped terrain with significant curves and grade changes north of the Forsyth city limits. Entrance and exit ramps along this segment require drivers to navigate sharp curves at reduced speeds.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office investigation into the crash is ongoing. I-75 through Monroe County is patrolled by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the Georgia State Patrol, and periodically by local law enforcement from Forsyth. The Georgia State Patrol’s Post 44 in Forsyth serves the Monroe County corridor and routinely investigates fatal and serious crashes on I-75 within the county. It was not immediately clear whether GSP troopers assisted at the scene. No charges had been announced as of the time of this report, and the cause of the crash had not been officially determined.
