EAST HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA. (THECOUNT) — Heather Bare, of York, Pennsylvania, has been identified as the woman who died following a vehicle crash on Route 283 East in Lancaster County. Bare was 48 years old. Authorities confirmed she was pronounced dead after being transported to Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital.
According to the Lancaster County Coroner’s Office, the crash occurred on Saturday, Feb. 21, along Route 283 East in East Hempfield Township. Officials stated that Bare was driving a vehicle that collided with an SUV in the eastbound lanes of the roadway.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene and transported Bare to Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital for treatment. The Lancaster County Coroner’s Office later responded to the hospital’s emergency department. A coroner investigator observed Bare in the trauma bay, according to the official release.
Despite medical intervention, Bare was pronounced deceased. The coroner’s office stated that her body was transported to the Lancaster County Forensic Center for further examination. An autopsy has been scheduled in order to determine the official cause and manner of death. Those findings are pending.
Authorities have not released additional details regarding the SUV involved in the collision, including the identity or medical condition of the other driver. No further information has been provided regarding whether additional injuries were sustained in the crash.
Route 283 serves as a primary east-west highway corridor through Lancaster County, connecting the Lancaster area to Dauphin County and the greater Harrisburg region. East Hempfield Township lies immediately west of the City of Lancaster and includes residential neighborhoods, commercial centers, and multiple access points to Route 283. The roadway is heavily traveled, particularly during weekend hours and peak commuting times.
At this stage of the investigation, officials have not disclosed what factors may have contributed to the collision. There has been no announcement regarding speed, roadway conditions, impairment, mechanical issues, or other potential causes. Investigators continue to review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Lancaster County Coroner’s Office is working in coordination with the appropriate law enforcement agencies to complete the investigation. Standard procedure in fatal crash investigations includes scene documentation, vehicle assessments, witness statements if available, and medical examination findings. Final determinations are typically released after all investigative components have been completed.
