LOS ANGELES, CA (THECOUNT) — Claudia Funk, 35, has been identified as the woman killed in a traffic collision Wednesday afternoon on northbound State Route 14, just north of Newhall Avenue and Interstate 5 in Santa Clarita.
Funk was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders, authorities confirmed. No place of residence was listed according to Kelly Vail, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office, however, she may have lived in Granada Hills, according to public records.
First responders from the Los Angeles County Fire Department were dispatched to the scene following reports of a serious collision. According to spokeswoman Edith Lai, emergency personnel attempted life-saving measures but Funk was declared deceased on arrival.
The vehicle involved was identified as a blue Toyota Corolla. California Highway Patrol Newhall-area Officer Carlos Burgos-Lopez confirmed in a news release that the Toyota became wedged under a truck-tractor combination trailer during the crash. It is currently unknown whether alcohol, drugs, or other factors contributed to the collision.
The California Highway Patrol and Los Angeles County Fire Department continue to investigate the crash. Officials are reviewing the scene, collecting evidence, and documenting the condition of both vehicles. CHP emphasized that this process is necessary to determine all contributing factors and to ensure accurate reporting of the incident.
Traffic along northbound State Route 14 in the Newhall area was temporarily impacted as responders managed the scene. Officials advised motorists to use caution when traveling in the area and to follow posted detours while the investigation continues.
Authorities have not released additional details regarding the crash sequence or any other individuals involved. CHP and Los Angeles County investigators are coordinating to reconstruct the events leading to the fatal collision. The investigation remains active, and no further information is available at this time.
Funk’s death is one of several recent traffic fatalities in Los Angeles County, highlighting ongoing concerns about roadway safety. Law enforcement officials continue to encourage drivers to observe speed limits, avoid distractions, and practice safe driving habits to reduce the risk of fatal accidents.
The California Highway Patrol asks anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has relevant information to contact the Newhall-area office to assist with the investigation.
