CALERA, AL. (THECOUNT) — Jennifer Talley, 23, of Calera, has been identified as the woman killed in a Thursday night shooting at a residence in North Calera, according to the Calera Police Department. Authorities say a suspect, identified as Noah Hendricks, has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the deadly incident.
Police said officers responded the night of Thursday, Feb. 13, to a home located on The Heights Drive after receiving reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they located Talley deceased at the scene. Investigators quickly began working to determine what led to the fatal encounter.
According to officials, the suspect was rapidly identified as Hendricks following initial investigative efforts at the scene. Law enforcement agencies coordinated to locate him, and he was ultimately taken into custody in Clanton. Hendricks was charged with murder and transported to the Shelby County Jail, where he is being held as the investigation continues.
Authorities confirmed that the incident involved individuals in a domestic relationship. Police noted that domestic-related situations account for a significant portion of violent crimes investigated by the department and often present complex and dangerous circumstances for both victims and responding officers.
The investigation remains active as detectives process evidence collected at the scene and continue following up on leads. Officials did not release further details about the events leading up to the shooting, citing the ongoing nature of the case.
The Calera Police Department acknowledged the assistance of multiple agencies in the swift apprehension of the suspect and the processing of the crime scene. Those agencies include the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, the Chilton County Sheriff’s Office, the Clanton Police Department, the Pelham Police Department, and the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office.
Calera is located in Shelby County, approximately 35 miles south of Birmingham, and has experienced rapid residential growth in recent years as families move into developing neighborhoods such as the North Calera area where the shooting occurred. The Heights Drive neighborhood is primarily residential, consisting of single-family homes.
Officials reminded residents that the department maintains a Victim Services Coordinator to assist individuals experiencing domestic abuse or violent situations in locating resources and support. Police emphasized the importance of seeking help early in domestic situations before they escalate into violence.
