KY Woman Camille McClanahan ID’d As Victim In Williamstown Murder-Suicide James Hall Shooter

PENDLETON COUNTY, KY (THECOUNT) — James Hall, 50, and Camille Woods-McClanahan, 40, both of Williamstown, were found dead Sunday evening in what authorities are describing as an apparent murder-suicide, according to the Kentucky State Police. Hall is believed to be the shooter.

Officials said the Pendleton County Sheriff’s Office responded to 2326 Hogg Ridge Road in Williamstown, around 11:00 p.m. for a welfare check and discovered both victims in the yard. Both had suffered gunshot wounds. Investigators determined preliminarily that Hall shot McClanahan before turning the weapon on himself, state police said. The exact relationship between the two victims was not immediately confirmed, and authorities did not release additional information about the circumstances leading to the shooting.

The Pendleton County Sheriff’s Office requested that the Kentucky State Police lead the investigation. Troopers are actively processing the scene, collecting evidence, and coordinating with the sheriff’s office to ensure all procedures are followed. No other individuals were reported to be involved in the incident, and authorities have not released the home address or other identifying information to the public at this time.

Hogg Ridge Road in Williamstown is located Pendleton County, Northern Kentucky, approximately 35 miles southeast of Cincinnati, Ohio. The county is primarily rural, with law enforcement officials often emphasizing community welfare checks when there are concerns about the well-being of residents. Welfare checks are standard procedure for law enforcement when neighbors or family members report concerns, and they often involve coordination between local sheriff’s offices and state police units to ensure safety and proper handling of potentially dangerous situations.

Murder-suicide incidents in Kentucky, while relatively rare, are treated with heightened caution by law enforcement. Investigators follow established protocols to document the scene, preserve evidence, and confirm preliminary findings through ballistic, forensic, and medical examinations. Kentucky State Police routinely lead investigations in cases where local agencies request additional support, ensuring independent review and thorough documentation of all findings.

Officials noted that they are withholding further details while the investigation is ongoing. This includes the cause of death confirmation by the coroner’s office, potential motive, and the full timeline of events leading to the shooting. The sheriff’s office and state police continue to work together to maintain the integrity of the investigation and to protect the privacy of the victims’ families.

Residents of Pendleton County were reminded by law enforcement officials that welfare checks play a critical role in ensuring the safety of individuals who may be at risk. These checks can be particularly important in rural communities, where residents may live at greater distances from neighbors and immediate assistance. Kentucky State Police emphasized that all residents should report concerns about the safety of others to local law enforcement promptly.

The Kentucky State Police continues to investigate, and additional information will be released when it becomes available. Authorities have asked the public to avoid speculation and to allow investigators to complete the ongoing review of the incident.
