Melanie & Ken Meyers ID’d As Victims In Tuesday Indiana Murder-Suicide

HUNTINGTON COUNTY, IND. (THECOUNT.COM) — Melanie Rochelle Meyers, 51, and Kenneth Meyers, 54, a married couple from Huntington County, Indiana, were found dead Tuesday night inside a residence on Maple Grove Road in what authorities say appears to be a murder-suicide.

According to Huntington County Coroner Phil Zahm, deputies were dispatched to the home to conduct a welfare check after relatives reported they had not seen or heard from the couple for an extended period of time. While the Maple Grove Road property was not listed as the couple’s primary residence, their vehicle was observed parked outside, prompting concern.

The couple’s primary residence, a 5,783 square foot home valued at over $1 million, is located at 10855 N. 200 W. in Huntington. (The residence was the site of a major fire in May 2025 and, within the last few weeks, a significant animal hoarding seizure — further details are provided below.)

When Huntington County Sheriff’s deputies entered the residence, they discovered both Melanie Rochelle Meyers and Ken Meyers deceased inside the home. Investigators noted that both individuals had sustained apparent gunshot wounds.

An autopsy later determined that Melanie died from a single gunshot wound. Her death has been officially ruled a homicide. Ken Meyers was found to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and his death has been ruled a suicide, according to the coroner’s office.

Authorities have not released additional details regarding the circumstances leading up to the shooting, including a possible motive. The investigation into the deaths remains ongoing.

In a written statement, Coroner Phil Zahm said the Huntington County Coroner’s Office extends its sympathies to the Meyers family and friends as the case continues to be investigated.

THECOUNT.com has learned that in addition to the recent tragedy, a Huntington County property owned by the Meyers had experienced a major fire in May of 2025. The property had also recently been the focus of a large-scale animal seizure. On January 2, 2026, authorities removed more than 40 animals from the property in response to a reported hoarding situation, prompting the Huntington County Humane Society to temporarily close so staff could care for the animals. On January 12, 2026, Melanie Meyers posted a video to her YouTube channel showing the interior of the severely damaged residence. In the footage, she displayed multiple birds in cages that she stated had not been removed by authorities, offering a firsthand look at the aftermath of the seizure. Community reports and publicly available records have linked this hoarding case to the Meyers’ property.

Kenneth Meyers was reportedly already on probation for previous animal cruelty-related charges at the time of the recent hoarding investigation.
