The fatal crash occurred at approximately 4:05 p.m. on southbound Interstate 380 east of Gilbertville. Authorities said the collision involved a pickup truck and a Toyota RAV4 traveling in opposite directions.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the pickup truck was being driven by 63-year-old Thomas Sidler of Robertsdale, Alabama. Investigators said the pickup was traveling northbound on Interstate 380 when it crossed the median for reasons that remain under investigation.

Authorities said the force of the collision caused both vehicles to leave the traveled portion of the roadway. The vehicles came to rest off the southbound lanes of Interstate 380.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene following reports of the crash. Upon arrival, first responders determined that both drivers and the passenger had suffered fatal injuries.
The Iowa State Patrol confirmed all three individuals were pronounced deceased at the scene. Officials stated that all occupants involved in the crash were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision.
