BESSEMER, AL. (THECOUNT.COM) — Tyler Neil Alexander, 19, of Birmingham, Alabama, has been identified as the victim in a fatal shooting that occurred late Sunday night at the Amazon Fulfillment Center in Bessemer, according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
The coroner confirmed Alexander was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 11:03 p.m. Sunday following a shooting reported inside the massive distribution facility located in the Bessemer area of western Jefferson County.
Authorities have not released additional details regarding the circumstances leading up to the shooting, including where inside the facility the incident occurred or what prompted the gunfire. No information has been provided regarding a suspect or whether any arrests have been made.
The Bessemer Police Department is actively investigating the incident. Officials said the investigation remains in its early stages and that more information will be released as it becomes available.
The Amazon Fulfillment Center in Bessemer is one of the largest employers in the region and operates around the clock, employing thousands of workers across multiple shifts. The facility is located near major transportation corridors serving the Birmingham metropolitan area and plays a significant role in regional logistics operations.
Law enforcement has not confirmed whether the shooting occurred during a shift change, involved employees, or if the victim was working at the time of the incident. Officials also have not stated whether the shooting was targeted or random in nature.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the facility late Sunday night following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, first responders located Alexander suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite emergency medical efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office confirmed Alexander’s identity Monday and noted that an autopsy will be conducted as part of the standard investigative process. The official cause and manner of death are expected to be released following completion of the examination.
As part of the investigation, detectives are expected to review surveillance footage, interview witnesses, and analyze forensic evidence collected from the scene. Police have not indicated whether the facility was placed on lockdown during or after the incident.
Neither Amazon representatives nor company officials have publicly commented on the shooting as of Monday. It is unclear whether the facility suspended operations following the incident or what security measures were in place at the time.
