MADISON, WI. (THECOUNT) — In Madison, Wisconsin, a school shooting at Abundant Life Christian School was carried out by 15-year-old student Natalie Rupnow, also known as ‘Samantha.’ The incident took place just before 11 a.m., resulting in the deaths of a teacher and a teenage student, with several others injured. Rupnow reportedly died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes stated that no immediate motive was apparent, and the investigation continues, focusing on a potential manifesto linked to Rupnow’s online activities. The school, serving roughly 420 students from K-12, was preparing for holiday activities when the shooting occurred, deeply affecting the community. Barbara Wiers, a school official, commented on the community’s response to the incident.
Outgoing President Joe Biden responded with a statement condemning the violence and advocating for stricter gun control measures, including universal background checks and a ban on assault weapons, highlighting the need for legislative action to address gun violence in the U.S.
The investigation into the shooting includes a search of Rupnow’s home and a review of her digital footprint for motives or communications that might explain the attack. Authorities are working with Rupnow’s family, who are cooperating with the investigation. School security measures were in place, but did not extend to metal detectors.
