RAPIDES PARISH, LA. (THECOUNT) — Louisiana State Police confirmed the tragic death of 27-year-old Brandon Whatley of Ball in a single-vehicle crash on Sunday, November 24. The accident occurred on Gilly Williams Road near Obanion Road in Rapides Parish.
Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to the scene around 3:20 p.m. Upon arrival, they found that Whatley had succumbed to fatal injuries sustained in the crash.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Whatley was driving northbound on Gilly Williams Road when, for reasons still under investigation, his vehicle veered off the roadway. The vehicle then descended an embankment, overturned, and struck a tree.
Authorities stated that Whatley was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. The impact of the crash resulted in fatal injuries, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
As part of standard protocol, routine toxicology samples were collected from Whatley for analysis. Results of these tests will aid in the investigation, which remains ongoing as troopers work to determine the exact cause of the accident.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of adhering to safety measures such as wearing seatbelts while driving. Louisiana State Police emphasize that proper seatbelt use can significantly reduce the risk of fatal injuries in vehicle crashes.
Troopers encourage all drivers to stay vigilant, drive responsibly, and adhere to traffic laws to prevent such tragedies.
