MA Woman Amanda Santiago ID’d As Victim In Friday CT Fatal Motorcycle Crash

ENFIELD, CT. (THECOUNT) — A tragic motorcycle accident in Enfield on Friday claimed the life of a 27-year-old woman from Springfield, Massachusetts, and left the motorcycle operator with injuries. According to the Enfield Police Department, the accident occurred in the area of 35 Somers Road around 1:20 p.m.

The rider of the motorcycle, identified as 31-year-old Jose Collazo of Chicopee, Massachusetts, was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Hartford with suspected injuries. His passenger, Amanda Santiago, 27, of Springfield, was also rushed to the same hospital, but she sadly succumbed to her injuries.

Accident Details and Response

Police and emergency crews arrived at the scene soon after receiving reports of a motor vehicle crash involving a motorcycle. According to the initial reports, the crash happened along Somers Road, a frequently traveled area in Enfield.

Upon arrival, first responders found both Collazo and Santiago seriously injured. Both were transported to St. Francis Hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, Santiago was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. The nature of Collazo’s injuries has not been disclosed, but authorities confirmed that he was being treated at the hospital.

The exact circumstances surrounding the crash are still under investigation by the Enfield Police Department’s Traffic Division. At this time, no further details have been released about whether any other vehicles were involved, the possible cause of the crash, or contributing factors like speed, weather, or road conditions.

Community Shock and Mourning

The news of Amanda Santiago’s death has sent shockwaves through both the Enfield and Springfield communities. Friends and family members of the victim have been grappling with the sudden loss, as Santiago was described as a beloved and vibrant person.

Santiago’s death marks another tragic incident involving motorcycles, highlighting the inherent risks for motorcyclists and their passengers. Although motorcycles offer a sense of freedom and adventure, riders and passengers are often more vulnerable to serious injury or death in the event of an accident.

Investigation Ongoing

The Enfield Police Department’s Traffic Division is leading the investigation into the crash. Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the accident to come forward. Officer Nisyrios is the lead investigator on the case, and individuals who may have witnessed the crash or have any relevant information are asked to contact the officer at 860-763-8985.

Police are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who may have been driving through the area of Somers Road at the time of the accident or who may have seen the motorcycle prior to the crash. Any dashcam footage or surveillance footage from nearby properties could prove critical in piecing together the events leading up to the crash.

Motorcycle Safety Awareness

This incident brings to light the continuing need for motorcycle safety awareness on the roads. Motorcycles are less visible than cars, and drivers of other vehicles must exercise caution when sharing the road with motorcyclists. At the same time, motorcyclists and their passengers should always wear appropriate safety gear, including helmets, and follow all traffic laws to reduce the risk of injury or death in an accident.

According to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), motorcyclists are significantly more likely to die in traffic crashes compared to passengers in cars. It is a stark reminder of the importance of safety and vigilance on the road.

Moving Forward

As the investigation continues, the family and friends of Amanda Santiago are left to mourn the loss of a young life cut short. In the days ahead, authorities will work to determine the cause of the crash and whether any factors could have been prevented. In the meantime, local residents and motorists are urged to remain vigilant on the road and to report any unsafe driving conditions or reckless behavior they may witness.

Anyone with information regarding this tragic incident is encouraged to contact the Enfield Police Department’s Traffic Division.
