CAMERON COUNTY, TX. (THECOUNT) — Damian Martinez, of Brownsville, Texas, has been identified as the victim in a Sunday fatal vehicle crash in Cameron County.
Martinez, 18, was killed in a single-vehicle crash that also injured another teen near Port Isabel early Sunday morning.
According to reports, Martinez was operating a Mercedes Benz on Highway 48 south of Port Isabel, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle exited the roadway around 3:10 a.m. Sunday. The vehicle then rolled over multiple times before coming to a rest in a field.
Martinez, who was ejected from the vehicle during the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene.
His passenger was transported to an area hospital with unknown injuries believed to not be life-threatening.
The cause of the wreck remains under investigation.
