PHELPS COUNTY, MO. (THECOUNT) — David Newton, of Saint James, Missouri, has been identified as the man injured in a Thursday vehicle crash that killed a teen in Phelps County.
Newton, 40, was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash that killed a 17-year-old male passenger on Thursday night.
According to reports, Newton was operating a Ford F-350 pickup truck on Interstate 44 in Phelps County, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle exited the roadway around 5:40 p.m. Thursday. The vehicle then overcorrected and rolled over multiple times.
Both Newton and the unidentified teen were ejected from the vehicle during the wreck.
Newton was airlifted to an area hospital with serious injuries.
The 17-year-old male was airlifted to the same hospital where he was later pronounced dead of blunt force trauma injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
