POLK COUNTY, TX. (THECOUNT) — Micah McAfoose GoFundMe: Micah McAfoose has been identified as one of two Stephen F. Austin State University students involved in a double-fatal vehicle crash in East Texas on Friday.
McAfoose and Graylan Spring both died as a result of a vehicle crash involving a semi-tractor north of Corrigan, Texas on Friday afternoon.
McAfoose was pronounced dead of blunt force trauma injuries at the scene, while Spring was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. The school announced Spring passed away on Sunday.
SFA’s Athletics Department released the following statement:
“The entire SFA family is devastated by the tragic loss of football student-athlete Graylan Spring and baseball student-athlete Micah McAfoose. Grayland and Micah were two special people who meant so much to Stephen F. Austin, our football and baseball programs and our athletic department. We ask that everyone keep their families in your prayers during this difficult time.”

To know Micah was to love Micah! He was such a bright light to everyone that knew him with his infectious smile, bright blue eyes and was funny as hell! I have no words to express the sorrow all of us feel with him being gone too soon. He was an amazing soul, person, human, friend, teammate, student, brother, cousin and son. He was so comforting to all that knew him. He created a special bond with everyone and his passing has left everyone that knows him a huge void that will probably never be filled….yes he was that special.
Micah passed away 1/20/2023 in a car accident with an 18 wheeler while driving home from SFA to come home for the weekend. Please please keep his family in your everlasting prayers as well as the passenger who is in critical condition. They will need all the support they can with the huge loss of their beloved son.
Prayers.
According to the Cy Ranch baseball team’s Facebook page, McAfoose was headed home for the weekend when the crash occurred. He played baseball at the high school and graduated in 2022. He also wore #22.
“Many of you know his parents, especially his mom sitting in the stands with her Waffle Shirt because Micah would get Waffle House if he hit a home run,” a post on the page said. “Everyone knows how much personality Micah had. He literally was the light and joy for many, comedian for many, confidant for many, friend of ALL. He was a brother, cousin, teammate, student and most of all a son that will be dearly missed by everyone that knew him.”
Interim SFA President Dr. Steve Westbrook ordered for the school flag at the entrance to the campus to be flown at half-staff in their honor.
No further details of the crash were provided as of Monday morning.
