CALDWELL PARISH, LA. (THECOUNT) — Sherry McLain Bates, of Kelly, Alabama, has been identified as the victim in a Thursday afternoon fatal vehicle crash in Caldwell Parish.
Bates, 73, was killed in a two-vehicle crash involving 30-year-old Cody Culpepper from Columbia, Louisiana.
According to reports, Culpepper was operating a Ford F250 pickup truck on Highway 165 near Highway 843 in Kelly, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle rear-ended Bates’ Ford Explorer around 3 p.m. Thursday. Both vehicles then exited the roadway.
Culpepper and his passenger suffered minor injuries in the wreck.
Bates was pronounced dead at the scene of blunt force trauma injuries.
Routine toxicology samples were collected and submitted for analysis.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
