SHELBY COUNTY, TN. (THECOUNT) — Shonka Dukureh, the acclaimed gospel singer and actress who portrayed “Big Mama Thornton” in the movie ‘Elvis’, has died, She was 44.
According to reports, Dukureh was found dead Thursday in the bedroom of her Kothe Way apartment in the Antioch neighborhood of Nashville.
Dukureh shared her home with her two young children.
A cause of death was not provided.
Authorities said there is no evidence of foul play.
