POTTER COUNTY, TX. (THECOUNT) — George Michael Mireles, of Amarillo, Texas, has been identified as the victim in a fatal Friday police-involved shooting in Potter County.
Mireles, 34, was fatally shot by Amarillo police after allegedly opening fire on officers on Friday.
According to reports, police attempted to make contact with Mireles while looking for a different man on felony drug charges. When they approached Mireles, because he resembled the man they were searching for, gunfire was exchanged.
Police later learned Mireles was wanted on a felony drug charge.
Mireles was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead of gunshot injuries.
Police say they later found the man they were looking for and arrested him.
