ST CLAIR COUNTY, IL. (THECOUNT) — Rena Wood, of Hartsville, Tennessee, has been identified as the pedestrian fatally struck by a vehicle Saturday night in St. Clair County.
Wood, 55, was struck and killed by a vehicle near Fairview Heights Saturday night.
According to reports, Wood was operating a Chevrolet Malibu on Interstate 64 near mile marker 11.5 in Fairview Heights, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle pulled on the shoulder near the N Ruby Lane overpass. Wood then exited the vehicle and walked into traffic lanes. She was then struck by a passing vehicle.
The vehicle then fled the scene and was later located by authorities.
Wood was pronounced dead of blunt force trauma injuries at the scene.
The cause of the deadly incident remains under investigation.
