LINCOLN COUNTY, NE. (THECOUNT) — Gilbert “Gilly” Vasquez and Robert Islas, both of Sioux City, Iowa, have been identified as the men killed in a double-fatal vehicle crash in Lincoln County Wednesday night.
Vasquez, 59, and Islas, 32, were both killed in a Tuesday night crash involving a big-rig near North Platte.
According to reports, Vasquez and Islas were traveling in a vehicle on Highway 83 near North Platte, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed centerlines and into opposing lanes around 7 p.m. Tuesday. The vehicle than made head-on contact with a semi-truck and burst into flames.
The driver of the semi suffered minor injuries.
Vasquez and Islas were pronounced dead at the scene of blunt force trauma and thermal injuries.
