FORT WAYNE, IN. (THECOUNT) — Demarcus Walker, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, has been identified as the victim brutally beaten Saturday morning by 21-year-old Bluffton man, Levi Arnold, in the Apple Glen Crossing Walmart parking lot.

Walker, 44, was attacked by a masked Arnold who used a baseball bat in an apparent random “triggered” attack at the Walmart in the parking lot located on Apple Glen Blvd on Saturday.

Fort Wayne police say a Good Samaritan drew his weapon after spotting Arnold beating Walker in the Glen Apple Crossing Walmart parking lot just before 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Arnold then fled the scene in a burgundy Chevy Impala.

A detective spotted the vehicle and tried to pull it over but was unsuccessful. Police say officers in Wells County also tried to pull it over but were unsuccessful. Investigators later located and arrested Arnold.

Police say they were tipped off by someone who recognized Arnold’s car from a separate incident, reports WFFT.

Police maintain they don’t believe the attack was a hate crime, but admitted the two men did not know each other. Instead, they say it appears Arnold “just snapped.”

Arnold is charged with attempted murder.

The attack remains under investigation.
